The weekend felt way too short.
Saturday night I went out with some sorority sisters for a bachelorette party. It was awesome sauce getting to see some of my favorite people that I haven't seen in a while! We pre-gamed in the hotel room, got dinner out at Hard Rock, and then went to a bar at City Walk. It was pretty cold for us Florida girls, but we survived, arms bared and all. I only had a few drinks early on because 1. I had to drive and 2. I hate using points/calories on drinks unless I can get pretty sloppy (which I could not, see #1).

Sunday morning I did my virtual race, Tackle the Miles, from Jill's blog. I decided to make it a 10k since that's what was on my training schedule for this week.
I PR'd it!
Sunday night I was planning on making this for dinner, but I'm awesome dumb and dropped my almost completely peeled squash into the trash. This may or may not be the first time I've done that. I decided to make pasta with the sausage sans squash, but realized we didn't have any pasta sauce. Hubs ran up to Publix (since it's only a mile up the street) and I was going to begin dinner. I started to boil water and a few minutes later noticed a burning smell (and smoke). Someone (hubs) left a potholder on the burner and I turned on the wrong burner.
There was some fire and, sadly, the pot holder didn't make it.
I had to open all of the doors and windows to air out the house before the smoke alarm went off (it did not, thankfully). To top it off, dinner just sucked in general and I was still hungry. I wanted a snack, but watching The Beyonce Bowl made me realize I better not.
Here's our menu for the week. We've got a lot of pasta going on, but I wasn't in the mood for extensive prep this week. I'm pretty excited about kale fried rice tonight!

Looks like you guys had a great time. Wish I lived closer so we could hang out.
ReplyDeleteI’m so sorry that your pot holder didn’t make it, and also for the ruined dinner. I guess your hubs forgot that he left the pot holder on the burner. It was an honest mistake. Still, it could lead to much bigger problems if left unattended. Kitchen fires are one of the leading causes of residential fires. It is always important to keep your kitchen fire-resistant, and always be careful when cooking in the kitchen. {Cayla Dupont}
ReplyDeleteOh, poor pot holder! But I’m glad to hear that there was no serious damage to the kitchen. Kitchen fires can really be startling. I remember when I almost set our kitchen on fire because I left the stove unattended. I was just tending to my son when I smelled smoke coming from the kitchen hallway. When I got to the kitchen, the stove was spitting fire and my pot was charred. Sad to say, the whole stove didn't make it.
